For the Love of a Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable

Michael Jackson seems to be moonwalking back into the entertainment industry in an extremely weird way. This upcoming biopic, For the Love of a Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable, is being produced by Graham King, who also produced Bohemian Rhapsody.

But unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, this biopic is less than remotely realistic. In this movie, the king of pop’s glove is actually an alien that thirsts for “virgin boys blood.” The producers apparently hope to observe the disturbing aspects of Michael Jackson’s life in a more light hearted sense. There was a history of suspected sexual abuse in Michael Jackson’s life, yet he was never a solidly proven predator.

As they attempt to defend their upcoming movie, many people accuse it of being insanely insensitive to the victims of the situation. It’s also plainly insensitive to all of those who have been victimized by sexual abuse.

The toxic message that this movie can spread, is that predators can’t help themselves from sexually abusing others. Instead of putting the blame wholly on the predators where it belongs, it’s put on any other factor that’s out of the predators control, thus making the predator seem just as much a victim as the actual victim.

When it comes to sexual abuse stories, we need to do better at raising helpful awareness to hopefully prevent others from being victimized by the same cruelty.
