As the winter weather comes to an end, students are getting prepared for the upcoming spring season of sports. This year softball players are getting pumped up for a different reason than other teams. This year the  JV A softball is getting a new coach, Coach Lola Hess.

Coach Hess was previously a volleyball coach for the freshman team, and then was offered a spot for the freshman basketball team. Now, she’s taking the spot of the new JV A softball coach and is willing and ready to improve the Falcons’ program and record.

I am very much looking forward to tryouts this week. I am excited to see the talent Ford’s softball program has to offer,” Hess said. “During tryouts I will be looking for girls that are committed to not only the game of softball, but to also their academics. I will be watching hustle, attitudes, hand/eye coordination, focus, and determination.”

The JV A coach’s determination to seek new players for her new team could improve Henry Ford’s program, and ultimately help the players get ready for the Varsity level.

“I’m really excited to have Coach Hess on our coaching staff,” said varsity softball Coach Matt Joseph, “I expect her to bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and the ability to get her players to play at a high level. With her past experience I know she will mold and develop our younger players and get them ready to compete at the varsity level.”

As for the players, they are looking forward to play for Coach Hess. A few of the volleyball and basketball players from the freshmen teams are trying out for the JV A team in hopes to play for Coach Hess.

“I have seen Coach Hess coach the freshman basketball team. From observing her as the basketball coach, she seems to be able to coach a team in a way that helps them to improve, but have fun at the same time,”sophomore Haley Shaffer said.

As the tryouts date is set on the week of March 12, softball players are working hard in order to make the softball teams.
