The Heisman Memorial Trophy Ceremony is the most coveted College Football award. The award is given to the most outstanding college football player of the year. The nominees for this year’s award are, Oklahoma’s quarterback Baker Mayfield, Stanford’s running back Bryce Love, and Louisville’s quarterback Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson was the recipient of the Heisman award last year with electrifying highlights throughout his running attack, and all-purpose yards. Close nominees this year for the award were Penn State’s running back SaQuon Barkley, and San Diego State’s running back Rashaad Penny.

Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma

Baker has been here before, in 2015 the former walk-on finished 4th in race, in 2016 Mayfield got an invite as one of the 5 finalists and finished in 3rd. This year Baker Mayfield is entering the Heisman Trophy Presentation in New York as the likely favorite to win it all. Mayfield leads the nation with a 203.76 passer efficiency, and has thrown for 4.340 yards, 41 touchdowns while only having five interceptions on the season. Baker Mayfield will arguably go down as the best quarterback in Oklahoma history, especially with a Heisman being added to his trophy case.

Lamar Jackson QB Louisville

Lamar Jackson’s stats have been better than last year when he won the Heisman. Just this year Louisville is lacking some quality mainly because of a slacking defense. Jackson is lightning fast and will most likely enter the NFL Draft after Louisville’s bowl game. Lamar Jackson has thrown for 3,489 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions while also accumulating 1,443 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Bryce Love RB Stanford

Bryce Love is 2nd in the nation in rushing yards per game with 164.72 yards per game. Love was slowed in production due an ankle injury in early November but still led the country in runs for 50+ yards. In 12 games this season Love rushed for 1,973 yards with 17 touchdowns.

“Baker should win the Heisman,” senior Matt Domke said. “He has been too dominant not to be. He can’t lose.”

“I believe Baker Mayfield will win the Heisman Trophy because he is just simply unstoppable when he has the ball. He makes plays and is always able to score and rack up yards doing so.” junior Nick Sinawi said.

“Baker Mayfield no doubt, he clearly separated himself from the others throughout the year,” junior Nick Judd said.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy will be presented Saturday December 8th at 8:00 PM. Will Lamar Jackson be the second player to ever receive the Heisman two years in a row and join Ohio State running back Archie Griffin in an exclusive club? Or will the favorite Baker Mayfield take home the most prized possession in college football.
