With sweat dripping down their face, Varsity Volleyball won their first tournament this season.
The varsity volleyball team begins the season with new players ready to learn new strategies to win a tournament and play the best they have played before.
“The Brazilian drill helped us improve our communication and defense and overall made us a better team,” junior Alexa Pauluk said. “We all play our roles and keep each other positive and energetic. I would say I did well last year and improved while playing club.”
The tournament was at Richmond High School on Saturday, September 13. They played six games or 12 sets, winning all of them but one.
“It felt really good to beat Lutheran High North because that team is good, and my friend is on the team,” sophomore Grace Waske said. “Our team’s chemistry is closer than last year, and we do more activities outside of volleyball than last year. The drills give you opportunities to pass and hit and work with your team.”
Varsity has had around three to four tournaments, this being the first they won this year. They got a trophy for being one of the best teams there.
“Our skill level has definitely gone up from practices in the summer. and the communication has gone up too,” junior Sidney Merchant said. “I like the Brazilian drill because it was fun, and you get a lot of movement. The drill helped with communication and really connecting with your teammate.”
As the tournament ended, the players grabbed their bags, drank water, and left the building feeling good about winning the tournament.
