As they prepare for the start of the new season, every move gets sharper, every bond grows tighter, all for the moment they own the stage.
Sophomore Samantha Goodin said, “To prepare for camp we made our practices really productive and worked hard,” sophomore Samantha Goodin said. “We did extra conditioning and built our stamina. Our coaches also had us work with different instructors to drill our technique and we stretched a lot.”
Dance team camp is three days long. The three days that they are there, they are very busy while they strengthen their technique and learn new dances. The dancers’ day begins at 8 A.M. and ends around 12 A.M. depending on how their team evaluation dances look. It takes a long time for the dancers to prepare for camp, whether its long practices or getting everything set at home.
“I learned how to pick up choreography faster, which helps me learn dances,” sophomore Ally Girlish said. “I also learned how to improve my technique, which can be used throughout the rest of the season. I also got advice from an NFL cheerleader on how to perform better.”
After camp, the dancers can use what they learned from their experience. They can use the dances and technique they learned for football games, basketball games, and pep rallies.
“My favorite parts about dance team camp would probably be the team bonding and the experience you get out of it,” junior Ava Bridges said. “Dance team camp teaches you new styles of dance and how to become more bonded with your teammates. The dance team this year has been truly amazing with the friendships I have made, and I can proudly say these girls will forever be my lifelong friends.”
In summary, dance team camp helps the dancers on the Stevenson Ford United Dance Team improve their technique, learn more dances, get sharper motions, and most importantly grow stronger bonds with their team.
