Being the only soccer team to have a winning record this year, the team almost lost their winning record, making a triumph over Utica in the game.
The school’s freshmen soccer team pulled a comeback during their match against Utica High School on 9/12/2025 at home.
In the first half of the game, Utica’s attacker attempts to make a shot, which leads to the ball bouncing, as it approaches the goalkeeper’s box. Goalkeeper Vadir Cortez attempts to retrieve the ball coming towards him, but as he steps off his line, he overestimates the ball’s bounce which ends up going over his head. This led to a goal by Utica, making Ford go down by 1.
“This is my first time goalkeeping, so I don’t have much experience in the position,” sophomore Vadir Cortez said. “I overestimated the bounce of the ball coming towards me. So, when I stepped off my goal line, I had the ball bounce over me which led to us conceding a goal. I helped clear the ball out by fulfilling my role as a sweeper keeper and led us to win the game.”
Going into the second half, starting center back Mateo Crescenti commands the backline and helps clear out any dangerous balls that are coming towards the goal. He took care of big chances created by Utica’s team to allow the team to stay up. Also, he helped assist the goal to equalize the game by playmaking it from the backline into the striker’s possession.
“I was leading the team and communicating with them to clear the ball effectively,” freshmen Mateo Crescenti said. “We have amazing chemistry in the backline which allows us to keep possession and to productively waste time. I earned an assist to equalize the score after intercepting the ball from the Utica attacker and quickly lobbing the ball over the opponent’s heads to help score.”
In the middle of the second half, star striker Razoky scored two goals in the span of five minutes to help bring the school the win. He dribbled past multiple players and had multiple shots on target. He would find weaknesses in the defenses backline and take advantage of it to help himself score. The school won the game by “parking the bus” in the final minutes of the game and keeping their winning record.
