It’s more than just the 90 minutes on the field: it’s the pre-game, the daily routines, the superstitions, the practice, and the discipline that outline an athlete’s day-to-day life.
A soccer player’s life is more than just the game they play. There is a process to their daily routine to prepare for their games or practices. An athlete’s routine is unlike an everyday person’s routine; it includes a lot of discipline. Today, our feet will be taking a look at what it feels like to be in 2025 graduate Kayla Mcpherson’s life.
“The morning of a game day is like any other day,” 2025 graduate Captain Kayla McPherson said. “But I really focus on getting a good breakfast in with carbs and protein to make sure I’m fueled for my game later in the day.”
Athletes often prepare for their games by eating a couple fueling meals and hydrating their bodies throughout the day. Kayla has recognized how important this can be to her own performance on the field.
“These may not be superstitions, but I do have a pre-game routine,” McPherson said. “I always get an energy drink and put my hair in a bun. If I don’t do these things, I always feel off.”
Many athletes have a pre-game routine; some call them their superstitions. This can positively or negatively affect an athlete’s performance. Either way, an athlete’s routine is specific to them, and Kayla has been able to make hers her own.
“My game days in high school are always on a school day–it consists of getting through with school,” McPherson said. “I possibly take a nap, eat a fueling snack or meal, then head to my game. Our team watches the JV game, and then we begin to get ready for our game at 7 P.M.”
90 minutes on the field, but many more minutes off the field lead to a soccer player’s daily life. One with routine, dedication, business: this is a day in the life of a soccer player.
