A time for cheer, A time to celebrate, A time of fun, but Christmas may be the only winter Holiday easiest to commemorate.
Christians believe Christmas is a Holiday to celebrate the Lord’s birth, that it should be recognized the most. It’s important to recognize other holidays, but overall it depends on what one believes. Someone who celebrates a different Holiday rather than Christmas will celebrate that Holiday more than Christmas. According to Lifeway Research, in the United States about 9 in 10 Americans celebrate Christmas, so that is 90% of the US. 2% of Americans celebrate Hanukkah and about 1% celebrate Eid. Throughout the United States Christmas is more recognized and celebrated than other Holidays surrounding the season. So, it is much easier to celebrate Christmas in schools rather than other Holidays. That is not to say that Eid or Hanukkah shouldn’t be recognized, but it is more efficient to celebrate a Holiday that is relatively more popular in the US. Story continues below advertisement According to Pew Research, 46% say they celebrate religiously, which has gone down by 51% since 2013. 72% of students at Ford celebrate Christmas religiously while 28% do not celebrate for religious reasons. 92% of Ford celebrates Christmas while 8% don’t celebrate the Holiday of Christmas. Christmas is a religious Holiday, but in the US it has been turning towards just a Holiday rather than the celebration of Jesus’s life. In Ford most students celebrate for religious reasons such as christianity and catholicism. As a whole most of the student body celebrates Christmas which makes it easier for the school to recognize and decorate for Christmas, even if the Holiday is not being celebrated religiously. Many students said they would love to see the Holiday of Eid/Ramadan celebrated at school. 8% celebrate Eid at Ford instead of Christmas. “ I’m not sure what activities would be done for it in school, “ an anonymous student said. “ It’s more of a family holiday and if it’s not for family, then people donate to their neighbors or to the poor.” Christmas is a festive Holiday that can be celebrated with friends, family, and most of the community around you. It brings a lot of people with different backgrounds together. It would be good to recognize others’ holidays, so others can feel celebration in this time of year. But overall it is easier for students to have a bigger celebration for Christmas due to more of the population knowing this worldwide Holiday and it being easier to do activities for.
