Around this time it’s nice to be with your family and be able to celebrate Christmas or any other holiday you celebrate around December. This is not a possibility for some families, and churches do their best to help these families in need around this time of year.
Usually if someone attends a church, they tend to participate in the charity that happens during this time of year. Even if you don’t attend church, you can still help out with donating and buying gifts for the less fortunate. The Woods Church has their members pick a child from this country or another to buy gifts and necessities for, which is something many churches do.
“My church donated to children in need for Christmas presents around this time of year,” senior Matt Danhausen said, “I go to Rock point, and we pick a kid out of a lot of them. Then we buy them gifts that they need like winter clothing and we also buy them toys depending on their age.”
According to Peace Love Christmas.com there are 30 churches in the Macomb County area. This means it would be easy for anyone to donate to a church or help by gifts for underprivileged children even if you don’t currently belong to a church or are not religious.
“I attend the Woods Church as well as work there for fundraisers and to clean the church.”
“Our program to help children in need is very special because we help kids in the country and in other countries as well” Aunt of Henry Ford student Karen Holtzhouse said. “We choose out of a group of children, boy or girl, and buy them gifts they might need and things they might want.”
No matter where someone lives or what they celebrate this time of year, it can be hard for families to support their children and spouses due to pricing of things and perhaps the cold weather. It’s always a good thing to not just think about struggling families within someone’s own country, but also families from other places.
“I go to Heritage Church, but we do not do a charity thing for children in need as far as I know. We do a canned food drive, but that’s about it’s, Freshman Samantha Gooden said, “I think it would be really good if our church started doing a gift fundraiser for less fortunate children though, it’s an amazing thing to do.”
If your family has the means to afford gifts for others in need it is a great deed to do. Finding a church that does charities like this in the Macomb County area is very easy and you don’t have to belong to the church to participate. Snow is falling, prices are getting steeper, and everywhere is getting colder, so it’s time to help the families in need.
