Young Nudy and Pi’erre Bourne collab for the 16-song sequel of their 2019 hip-hop mixtape Sli’merre. The project combines Bourne’s woozy, bass thumping beats, with Nudy’s gritty, southern flows. The effective contrast of the two styles has lead to the two collaborating on many songs outside of the Sli’merre series.
The album was decent but fell short of my expectations for the project. The 2019 edition was a classic among both artists’ fanbases and set a high precedent for any potential sequel. The music on the album didn’t move the needle for me like it should have.
The beat selection on the album was as formidable as it always is on Pi’erre Bourne produced projects. They had the cloud-like, ethereal trap feel that you can expect from Pi’erre Bourne and Young Nudy collaborations. The mix of the beat and Nudy’s rough and rugged rapping style enhanced the music as expected.
The songs, however, didn’t feel varied or have different feels like they did in “Sli’merre.” Songs like Suflower Seeds and Long Ride felt different on the original, but I never felt that same variety in “Sli’merre 2.” The songs have similar tones on the newer album which left me feeling a little disappointed. The album also lacked most of the features that were in the first album; gaining features from artists like 21 Savage and Lil Uzi Vert.
All in all, “Sli’merre 2,” sequel to “Sli’merre” was a passable but underwhelming album on the first listen. It’s an easy to listen to album that didn’t produce any necessarily bad songs. However, it didn’t live up to the expectation set by the original on the first listen.
Songs like Money, Loaded, 10 pc Teriyaki, and Bloody are some of the best on the album. You can listen to the album on Spotify, Apple Music, or any other type of streaming service. I would give this album a final rating of a 6/10.
