The album opens with the song stars, which opens with vintage Kanye gospel chorus And closes with beautiful synths. Despite some unnecessary controversial lyrics, I think this is a great opener. This song is followed by the more emotional song keys to my life. This song has some vintage funny Kanye bars mixed with the sad theme. The album gets more up tempo with the song paid which is just a fun club banger. The next song was talking which opens with his daughter North delivering a really catchy hook followed by Kanye and ty Dolla signs pretty outro. On the song back to me ty Dolla sign delivers one of the best hooks on the album and Freddie Gibbs delivers the best feature on the album, but Kanye’s overly goofy verses bring the song down a bit but still a fun song
The song hood rat is very boring and poorly mixed, and paperwork seems like a song that goes no were. But in between these songs is do it which is one of the grooviest songs on the album with a beat that matches the lyrics really well.
The song burn is incredible and really sounds like old Kanye with a verse filled with energy which he lacks on most of this album. On the next 3 songs we get a stacked feature list with songs from Playboy Carti, rich the kid, Lil Durk and bump J. Carnival is the most popular song on the album with very energetic verses but the biggest problem in this song is Kanye. First of all, comparing yourself to r kelly, bill cosby and puff daddy seems like trying to be edgy and is not needed. He continues to be controversial by calling himself the new jesus.
The song beg forgiveness sounds very unique and has a very passionate outro from ty dolla sign. The song problematic has the best beat on the album and would have been a good outro as the outro king doesn’t do this album justice with a lazy hook and lazy verses
Overall, this album has great production like all Kanye albums, but Kanye’s unnecessary controversial and overly corny lyrics bring it down. It’s still a good album with very good high Moments, so I’d give the album a 7/10.If you’re looking for lyricism this is definitely not the album for you but if your a fan of club bangers and classic Kanye West production than its definitely worth a listen.
