After completing four performances this year, the theater classes and teacher Kirstin Carolin prepare “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.”
“I’m so proud of my cast and how far that they have come. I’m so excited to see them all performing on stage,” said senior director Hailee Gerrick. “Some of them have never been in a play before, so this will be a new experience for them. They have worked so hard on the building blocks of this performance.”
It is true that some students have never performed before. That includes the freshmen in this play. Some get quite nervous, but it gives them the experience on how performing plays work and how rehearsing is done for them.
“I’m really excited for the play to start in a little bit,” freshman Sidney Marchand said. “I’m still kind of nervous but we worked so hard on this play, and I think that we’re ready to perform in front of an audience.”

During rehearsals, the cast works on their lines and blocking. Blocking is the actions that they perform on set to an audience. They go over the same thing over and over to lead up to their best performance on a live stage.
“We practice different scenes and try to critique each other on them. We try and support each other with what we thought was good and where we can improve,” sophomore cast member Chloe Navaroli said. “We work a lot on character development when we’re rehearsing.”
The cast works on how they are going to perform this show to an audience. They also must figure out how props will work on stage and how they are doing their set pieces for the show. Since the play date is coming up any time now, they must make any finishing touches on the show they need.
