The Dodge Challenger has been a 2-door muscle car that’s been in production on and off since roughly the 1970s. The modern generation came out in the late 2000s and featured many different powertrain options, exciting ones consisting of different V8 engines. Up towards the end of the Dodge Challengers production, in 2023 there was a line of extremely powerful supercharged hellcat engines. The Challenger EV is supposed to succeed the previous generation, however it’s a large step from a V8 muscle car to something electric. It doesn’t have the same exciting noise as the V8 muscle car, and it doesn’t hardly appeal to car enthusiasts in the electric generation.
The new Challenger EV contains a “whirring” sound as versus the sound a gas engine would make. It seems more of a gimmick than something useful. The lack of sound is a huge reason that people don’t view electric cars, especially something as iconic as the Challenger real muscle cars. The electric car doesn’t boast the same thrill as before.
One thing that’s fun about an electric vehicle is the instant power. It gives a thrill to the driving experience with all the power; however, it feels more artificial than a gas-powered vehicle. There is a point where every vehicle feels like a computer, not like a classic muscle car.
The Challenger EV is expected to start at $50,000 and go upward from there. This pricing is a huge hike from the previous gas-powered generation. Electric vehicles generally have a higher price than a gas-powered car however in certain cases it can be cheaper to own them. There is tax credits, however its uncertain if they will apply to this vehicle.
