Learning is something that many children and teenagers can struggle with. Everybody has different ways that they can learn. The issue is that in classrooms many times things are only taught one way. Often this isn’t due to the teacher’s preference but more due to the lack of time compared with the class sizes.
89% of teachers believe that students perform better when learning is tailored towards their preferred learning style.
Although many teachers do believe that tailoring learning to each student is beneficial, it isn’t always possible. When classrooms have heavy amounts of students the teachers may be cramped for time. This flaws many students’ learning.
68% of students do not have a preferred learning style.
Having learning preferences met can be beneficial, however it can be difficult for teachers to even figure out what styles everyone prefers. When a majority of students don’t have a preferred learning style it can be difficult for teachers to figure out what they can do. This can lead to many teachers going for a more overall approach to learning, which can be fine for some but difficult for others.
Classrooms generally are too crowded for individual attention aimed at students.
In conclusion, it is beneficial to have some kind of tailored learning. However, mixed with students’ lack of awareness of their preferred learning style and crowded classrooms it makes this a tough issue to attack.
