The rom-com movie “Anyone But You” directed by Will Gluck has been out since December of 2023. There are lots of thoughts and opinions on it. Many romance movies feature a couple that meet for the first time or have hated each other since the past, and they end up falling in love toward the end of the movie. Although in this movie it was a little different, it wasn’t a point-to-point movie like all other Rom-Com movies. The two main characters Ben and Bea, met in a coffee shop when Ben was in line ready to order his coffee at the counter and Bea ran into the shop needing to use the restroom. Ben acts like she’s his wife and bought something for her so she could use the restroom. Bea is charmed from what the man she doesn’t even know just did for her. So, they go walking around the city together after what had happened at the coffee shop. Bea ends up in his bed the next morning but leaves as soon as she wakes up so he wouldn’t notice she left. But six months later, they come back in contact by going to the bar, with Bea being introduced by a friend of Ben. The whole night in front of them is going to be awkward because they’ve already met each other before that.
A year later they both end up going to that same friend’s wedding together in Sydney, Australia. That meant that they had to see each other on this trip. “Anyone But You” is one of the best rom-com movies because it’s not just like any other romance movie.
Although it ends up being the same beginning and ending as most rom-com movies have, the whole movie in between is not. Most romance movies give off the same vibe as any other one, but this movie consists of Ben and Bea randomly meeting in a coffee shop to them posing as a couple for their friends and family. Even though this movie had a great sense of romance and comedic relief, it could use some critiquing. This rom com embodies every cliche imaginable. Some moments felt forced and oddly out of place, with the lead actors lacking any chemistry. This movie also might not be very romantic, as it’s under the romance/comedy genre of movies, but it still entertains its audience.
