Summer is just around the corner and finding things to do everyday in Sterling Heights and the surrounding areas might seem daunting. With more than two months of free time to fill, it becomes harder and harder to find fun things to do locally. Here are some fun summer activities in the local area that can be enjoyed alone or with friends.

The Detroit Zoo:

The zoo is a summer staple when it comes to fun in the sun. With exotic animals and Dippin’ Dots, what’s not to like?

“I was recently at the zoo and it made me remember how much I really enjoyed it when I was younger and even now that I’m a teenager,” junior Amanda Polly said.

C.J. Barrymore’s:

This amusement park/arcade/golf course on Hall Road has something for everyone. Patrons young and old can have a good time, and with its indoor and outdoor facilities, they are open every day, rain or shine.

“Barrymore’s has always been a classic hangout spot for me and my friends,” freshman Cassidy Mack said.

Dodge Park:

With its soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds and picnic tables, an entire day could easily be spent soaking up some sun. If it gets too hot in the direct sunlight, cool down by walking the tree shaded trails behind the recreational facilities.

Farmers Market:

Every Thursday starting June 6, local vendors will be setting up and selling their goods at Dodge Park on Utica Road. Ending on September 26, there is plenty of time to support your local community and get fresh produce and sweet treats all summer long.

Music in the Park:

The city is also puts on free concerts every Thursday night along with the farmers market located in the same place. It’s fun for the whole family because they offer free kids entertainment to allow the parents to sit back and enjoy the show while the kids are having fun.
